Wayne Sermon (GUITARRISTA DE LA BANDA)

"¡Es una locura! Siempre que visitamos por primera vez un país nos emocionamos. Llegar a un festival con miles de personas e interactuar con otros públicos definitivamente nos motiva. Será nuestra primera vez en México y estamos ansiosos de estar ahí", dijo el guitarrista Wayne Sermon a The Associated Press en entrevista telefónica reciente.

Dato: La canción "Radioactive" de Imagine Dragons ocupa los primeros peldaños del Tunes Top Music Videos, en tanto que revistas especializadas como Billboard y Rolling Stone, en Estados Unidos, la han llamado "la banda revelación de 2013", título que Sermon y sus compañeros del grupo consideran un aliciente pero que han tratado de llevar con mesura y precaución.

"Creo que sí nos hemos sorprendido (por el éxito), y hemos tratado de ser lo más creativos posible. Supongo que el hecho de ser un grupo de Las Vegas te hace pensar que un día alguien te descubrirá, pero tienes que trabajar muy duro para trascender la escena local. En realidad nunca nos imaginamos que pasaría todo esto (la fama) en un tiempo relativamente corto", explicó Sermon.

El guitarrista recordó que conoció al bajista Ben McKee y al baterista Dan Platzman en la escuela de música de Berklee, en Boston, donde formaron un ensamble de jazz.

"Tras graduarnos, perdí contacto con ellos (con McKee y Platzman) y para ser honestos, jamás pensé que nos volveríamos a juntar. Tiempo después llegó la oportunidad de conformar un proyecto musical y supe que quería que ellos estuvieran en él. A Dan (Reynolds), nuestro cantante, lo vi actuar en un bar en Utah", afirmó.

"Me gustó lo que Dan (Reynolds) transmitía sobre el escenario, pero en realidad no estaba seguro si como banda funcionaríamos. Teníamos que probar, subir los cuatro a un escenario ante un público, y comprobar si había o no alguna conexión. Recuerdo aquella noche de nuestro debut en Las Vegas, era un bar horrible y había unas diez personas viéndonos", dijo Sermon.

Para Imagine Dragons, que llegó el sábado a México, los días de tocar en el bar de un casino en Las Vegas ya son parte del pasado. En ocasiones, los integrantes de la banda estadounidense se pellizcan para saber si no están soñando y si su éxito a nivel internacional es hoy una realidad.

Tan sólo cuatro años después de su irrupción en la escena musical, esta banda de rock ha ganado espacios en la prensa especializada y se disputa un lugar en los carteles de los festivales más importantes del mundo, como el Corona Capital en México, donde tiene previsto compartir el escenario con unas 50 agrupaciones, en su mayoría angloparlantes.

¿Quienes son IMAGINE DRAGONS?

Imagine Dragons es una banda de indie rock estadounidense, originaria de Las Vegas, Nevada. La revista Billboard los llamo "La Banda Revelación del 2013", y la revista Rolling Stone llama "El mayor éxito rock del año" a su sencillo "Radioactive".

Actualmente solo son los 4 hombres, ya que desde los primeros comienzos eran 5 integrantes y los últimos 2 (Chico y chica) decidieron tener una relación y retirarse de la banda.
